Owen and his team have been exceptional. We have worked with builders before and have never met a builder as... communicative, professional and helpful. In 4 and a half months, his team have constructed a double and single storey extension, and undertaken external landscaping, doubling the size of out property and building a stunning family home. The guys he works with are helpful and hard working and any snagging is dealt with quickly. We were recommended his company by a friend who had just completed similar works and following our experience, we would also highly recommend Owen.read more

Please avoid at all costs. If I could give minus scores I would. Three weeks into a 12 week building project Steve and... Debbie asked for over 50% of the quotation price claiming it was ‘purely for work done’. They had done less than 30% of the work which we had paid them for. They repeatedly refused to give me a breakdown of their invoice for £18,000 and said this would be “similar to buying a car and asking for a breakdown of the garage costs in building a car”. They said the invoice included a charge for an oak porch priced at £5574.90 but refused to provide a receipt, photo or any evidence that it existed. After I questioned this they left the project and told me that ‘works will no longer continue with your build’. After this they continued to pursue me, very aggressively, for money that, as was subsequently proven, I did not owe them and this included the cost of the oak porch which they could not show any evidence of. I employed a quantity surveyor to price up their work and had to employ a solicitor at quite a considerable cost to stop them pursuing me. The quantity surveyor found various defects with their work. It’s cost us £3500 to put right the work they did, plus legal fees and surveyors fees. They tried to make me agree to a confidentiality clause which I refused to do. It’s been very stressful, please avoid them. Quite happy to be contacted for evidence of the above. The dispute was conducted via email with Debbie as Steve refused to speak to me about it after I initially questioned the invoice of £18,000.read more

We've recently had the loft to our bungalow redeveloped by Steve and his team from S&O and we couldn't be happier. The... pitched roof was removed and replaced with a full width flat roof dormer to the rear and two smaller cottage dormers in the new pitched roof to the front creating 3 new bedrooms and a large bathroom.S&O work very differently to traditional builders. Whereas the original plans we'd bought meant retaining the structural walls in the loft (which determined all the room sizes), and using a lot of steel (costly and with a high CO2 impact), Steve beat every reputable quote we had by building in timber. The result - a cheaper, more sustainable, more useable loft.The architect and building control firm Steve uses are great. Easy to work with and very quick to reply.As to the work, Steve and his team have worked to a really high standard, kept me informed, made good progress and met all the timescales I was given, despite me making some changes along the way. The S&O team are polite, tidy and considerate and I would thoroughly recommend their work.Despite the difficulties of working during Covid-19, Steve has always had the highest regard for his team's and my family's safety, stopping work when necessary and keeping in touch to agree to return to work only when we felt comfortable, and when they could safely do so.10/10Tomread more
